PT Hutani Berkah Mulia is committed to protecting Indonesia’s peatland ecosystems through
restoration and conservation efforts that adhere to internationally recognized environmental standards and
applicable legal frameworks. With transparent governance, science-based impact measurement,
and inclusive community engagement, HBM stands as a trusted partner in delivering high-integrity carbon outcomes.
Project Activities

Community Engagement
We believe that successful peatland restoration must begin with the people who live closest to the land. At PT Hutani Berkah Mulia, we apply the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) to ensure that local communities are respected, informed, and actively involved from the start. Through open dialogue, capacity-building programs, and sustainable livelihood initiatives such as agroforestry and green jobs, we foster long-term partnerships that benefit both the environment and local well-being.
Water Management
Effective water management is a critical component in peatland restoration and the success of nature-based carbon projects.
At PT Hutani Berkah Mulia, we implement an integrated hydrological system to maintain optimal peat moisture, prevent drying, and reduce the risk of forest and land fires. Through the construction of canal blocks and data-driven water level monitoring, we ensure that the peat remains wet, slowing degradation and enhancing the land’s long-term capacity to absorb and store carbon.

Fire Prevention
Preventing forest and land fires is a top priority in peatland restoration. PT Hutani Berkah Mulia implements an integrated fire management system, which includes not only peat moisture monitoring but also regular patrols, as well as training and empowering local communities in early detection and fire suppression. By building infrastructure, establishing a solid response team, and involving local communities in fire control efforts, we are creating an effective protection system to prevent fires while preserving the ecological functions of peatland ecosystems.
Biodiversity Monitoring
Peatlands are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.
PT HBM’s peatland restoration project plays a vital role in conserving the unique flora and fauna that depend on these wetlands. By maintaining natural water levels and protecting intact peat forests, we help preserve critical habitats for endangered species, including migratory birds, rare plants, and peatland mammals. Our efforts ensure that carbon sequestration goes hand in hand with protecting Indonesia’s irreplaceable natural heritage.
